When I mentioned 'he was too young' it was a matter of acting and embracing a role. Radcliffe was unconvincing throughout the whole movie. Age was irrelevant, he could have been sixteen and still be unconvincing. The subject at hand was performance not age. If you truly take this subject to heart, I advise you to write a letter to the editor.

Re: Letter to the Editor

"An exabyte is one quintillion bytes, 1 with 18 zeros after it, or as much information from the beginning of time till 2003"
Or in other words, one billion gigabytes. That's a lot larger than even a terabyte.

"The Media Center has changed to become a center where staff and students are able to use various media to locate information on topics that will help their academic and social questions."
And so it should. Drexel's library has very few physical books. To be blunt, a library that still relies on physical books is a dying library. We opened our first bookless library last year.

"Information Literacy requires one to be able to locate information, interrupt it and apply it to a real life situation."
I /strongly/ suggest figuring out how to do that before you get to college.

"[...]that Google is not always the best search engine to use."
Google is NEVER the best search engine for real research. Web of Knowledge (WoK) is a fantastic database, if you have access to it.

"We are asking students to be more mindful of what they are printing (using print preview) to avoid wasting paper."
MRHS still prints? I hope you at LEAST double side pages.

I find it rather interesting that there is such an uproar regarding the library changes. While I certainly don't know the full story as I no longer go to MRHS, it sounds to me like MRHS is doing what quite a few other libraries are doing. At Drexel, very few people actually use it to get books, let alone utilize the staff. Here it's essentially a huge study hall. Heck, if you want to check out a book, unless the system is down, you don't even have to go to the circulation desk; grab it, scan it, go. Have a problem? Don't get up, text it. For the most part, the staff at the library work to do things behind the scenes, like put books back on the shelves. Staff-less, book-less libraries are here to stay. Technology has advanced so far now that we don't need physical books to do research, we don't need a human (most of the time), and we don't even need to leave our home. Look at Borders. They went bankrupt because they tried to evolve too late. The same thing could very well happen to a library that doesn't keep up with the times.

Stephen J. Food companies try to guarantee certain [earnings] so things cannot be done to hinder their profits.”'
I find that rather interesting. We have Sodexho here at Drexel as well, but I don't think that clause exists here. Sure, our Starbucks is run by Sodexho, but there are plenty of other places to get a meal here that aren't. For example, Drexel's own restaurant, The Academic Bistro, is run by the culinary arts/food service students. There are two other restaurants on campus that while they aren't student-run, they are independently owned and run. Oh, and don't forget the lunch trucks. Same deal with those.

Stephen J. Last Friday, during an official IC screening of KONY 2012 part 2, the audience started to pelt the screen, and IC organizers, with rocks. Ugandan police, in turn shot tear gas at the crowd and fired their rifles into the air, causing panic. One death and several injuries were reported.

http://www.monitor.co.ug/News/...

It was the second riot, or near-riot, that Invisible Children's videos have provoked in Uganda.

From the Uganda Monitor story, linked above:

"Ms Margaret Aciro, whose picture appears in the Kony 2012 video showing her lips, nose and ears mutilated, has criticised the documentary, saying it is aimed at making money using victims of the northern insurgency.

Ms Aciro, 35, abducted by rebels of the LRA in 2003 from Paicho Sub-county in Gulu Municipality, was among thousands of people who flocked Pece War Memorial Stadium on Friday to watch the filming of Kony 2012 by Invisible Children.

“I watched the Kony 2012 video but I decided to return home before the second one (Kony 2012 Par II) because I was dissatisfied with its content. I became sad when I saw my photo in the video. I knew they were using it to profit.”

Re: Are You a True 90′s Kid?

Firstly can I say that I Love your Blog.. so much so that I decided to
make video inspired by it..

I am in high school so I think that I have an obvious bias. Though I think that my bias is well founded. Yes, most relationships in high school don't last and are very dramatic. However, as many point out isn't high school about finding yourself? If you back away from every relationship you will never find the guy/or girl that you want to spend you life with. Merely that you haven't experimented enough and you could find yourself not knowing what you want. Those are my 2 cents. I a dating right now and I have a 4.3 weighted GPA...

Re: The Woman in Black: Not Daniel Radcliffe’s Best Performance

That is bull*! Yes people did and still do have children at a young age, but it's not about his age it's about the way he played it. I found him to be unconvincing too. He looked scared (had plenty of practice with that in Harry Potter) but he did not engage me. @ the other comment, no reality check needed. The reviewer is right.

Re: The Woman in Black: Not Daniel Radcliffe’s Best Performance

back in the time the film takes place in, men were married with children by age 18. So the whole "He looks too young to be a father of a four year old is naive" as for the rest of the review I can understand. I disagree, but I can understand. In our day and age most people are having children at ages 20, 21, 22, and 23. You make it sound as if it's rare or impossible to have a child in your twenties. Just because someone looks young doesn't mean they can't be parents. The factor that I am 23 with a 2 year old; I get judged everywhere I go with my son because I look even younger than 23. They either assume I am babysitting, he is my much younger sibling, or worst... assume that I am a teen mom. So your little "Radcliffe looks too young to be a father with a four year old son" sentence needs a reality check. considering this film takes place centuries before our own. Back then both men and women were usually married by age 18, 19, sometimes even younger. And usually they were popping out babies almost immediately after the wedding.

Re: Tablets vs. Books

I'm all for tablets and ereaders, but for some kinds of books, I do actually have to agree with Mrs. Mitchell. Personally, I refuse to buy any manga as an ebook. While it might be cheaper (in most cases), I still like being able to hold one in my hand, especially the traditional right-to-left style ones. I've also noticed that for manga, the ebook sometimes comes out significantly later than the printed copy. However, for textbooks and other book forms, I do prefer the ebook version - even if it means paying a bit more. That said, the argument for going with an ebook because it is cheaper simply is not true. Countless times I have seen an ebook cost $20+ more than a print book and for many ebook stores, there are no such things as coupons. The only exception I know of is Kobo. An ebook is just as much of an investment right now than a printed one, but that is slowly changing. A couple other things I'd like to point out:
1) Yes, many libraries do have a e-loan program for ebooks, but don't expect to get a link to an ePub file you can load up into iBooks or Kindle - especially given Kindle's proprietary format. If memory serves me correctly, MCL uses the Overdrive system, which requires you to download a special program to read that book you just checked out.
2) It is extremely easy to block apps on a school-issued iPad. Apple provides two free tools: Configurator and iPhone Configuration Utility. Both allow you to set restrictions on apps and on the iPad in general.
3) "iPads start at around $499 and as the features of them increase, so does the price." Sorry, but that's flat out wrong. Not once has Apple increased the price of an iPad. In fact, you can get an iPad 2 - brand new - for $400 from Apple.
4) "Some schools have also been lending the iPads to the students as well, but even that is a lot of money for the schools to be spending." Yes, an iPad is not cheap, but Apple offers both education and volume purchasing discounts, both of which give a decent discount over the regular price. You can get an example here: http://education.apple.com/ipa...

Stephen J.
While High School relationships are fickle and frail, they give kids a taste of what they want their future to be. These relationships' natures in and of themselves help form their character. In some ways, it matures them. It's just that the title, "Girlfriend and Boyfriend" might not fit the bill as to what an adult's relationship might be. If they were under a different name, they might be interpreted differently.
